Injured Lotus Renault driver Robert Kubica to go through fitness test for return – Formula 1 news
Lotus Renault GP driver Robert Kubica is expected to go through a fitness test before returning to Formula 1 which according to some sports is expected around the final couple of races of the 2011 season.
Some reports claim that Kubica might return to Formula 1 until the grand finale of the 2011 season which is expected to take place in Brazil while some reports claim that he might not even be ready to return to the sport until the beginning of the next season.
Either way, the Pole likes setting a goal for himself and this fitness test is going to be quite important for him if he wants to return to the sport as soon as possible.
“I always enjoy setting a goal, when circumstances allow. We'll see how my rehabilitation goes over the next few months. I'm satisfied with what's been happening until now, there are no complications. There is no hurry. What is important is that Renault
is keeping my place,” he said.
Kubica went through a near fatal accident during a weekend rally event which took place after the first pre-season test session in February 2011. After that, he was unable to return to the sport as the nervous system of his right hand was completely out
of function and some other injuries to his right elbow and his leg also restricted his return to the sport.
According to Renault’s doctor Riccardo Ceccarelli, Robert is going to go through another surgery which is going to improve the ‘mobility’ of his right elbow and help him go through the rehabilitation process more effectively.
“With his elbow blocked, we haven't had the chance to work on a full recovery programme as we would do normally,” he said.
Nevertheless, Robert Kubica is one of the best new comers in the sport as he has secured some pretty good results with Renault in the 2010 Formula 1 season and even before that, despite the fact that his car was not as fast as the rest of the cars on the
grid.
