Injured Mark Hunt walks out of UFC 146 – UFC News
Mark Hunt of Sydney has walked out of the UFC 146 event due a knee injury. The situation has become critical for the promising fighter who was being considered among UFC’s best emerging fighters. The event was to be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and
Mark Hunt was scheduled to face Stefan Struve, but no more. Mark Hunt has been replaced with Lavar Johnson for now.
Clarifying his stance over the situation and why he has walked out of the event, Hunt tweeted, “I don't think Struve would want to fight me at 40 per cent and I wouldn't of (sic) disrespected him like that by fighting.”
He added, “I will be going to have an op (operation) in California hopefully next week or tomorrow. Guys, I wish I could say sorry but it is what it is.”
On the other hand, his replacement Lavar Johnson from Strikeforce, spoke about his entry in the UFC. According Johnson, “I heard last night there was a chance I could get this fight and I accepted right away. I got the final word this morning. I am good
to go and got a ton of confidence in my ability right now. You don't get chances like this too much in life, so when you are lucky, you got to make the most of it.”
This will Johnson’s second fight in the UFC. His first fight was against Pat Barry, which he won through a second round TKO decision.
He further said that he has changed his habits to be a better fighter. Johnson revealed that previously he used to ‘have some drinks and barbecue’ after his fights to celebrate his victory but now he thinks it is unprofessional. According to Johnson, this
is the level where he needs to keep himself fit and ready for anything that comes up. He further said that this is his opportunity to make it big in the UFC and he will make sure he seizes the moment.
Johnson, who is currently an ambitious fighter, thinks he has all the abilities to take down the tallest UFC fighter Stefan Struve.
