Injured Overdose out of Dubai World Cup
Champion runner, Overdose will not be able to take part in the Dubai World Cup following a severe foot injury.
The Jozef Roszival-trained was scheduled to run at Meydan on March 31, but his foot injury forced the connections to bring him back to England for veterinary treatment.
The seven-year-old flew back to Amanda Perrett's yard in Pulborough, where he has been undergoing medical treatment since last Thursday. Explaining his injury, owner Zoltan Mikoczy said on Monday:
"In February, while in Dubai, he developed an abscess on his front right leg. Due to a communication problem, he was treated in Dubai for laminitis, which he had had previously. The pus couldn't clear from his foot as his shoe wasn't taken off so it tracked
up to his shin and started to exit there. No training was possible and there was no chance of him being able to race in Dubai at the end of the month.”
“He's now back at Amanda Perrett's in Pulborough, where he was stabled last year and also in 2009 when he was recovering from serious injury," he added.
The bay horse has been producing magnificent results since his debut in June 2007. After starting off his career on a winning note, the dashing runner remained unbeaten until August 2010. He has won 16 out of 19 races so far in his career.
With such a healthy track record, Overdose was one of the strongest contenders in the World Cup. However, his fans had to face disappointment after his exclusion from the mega event due to fitness issues.
Starborough’s son out of Our Poppet made his last trip in November last year, when he sealed a classy victory in the Premio Carlo & Francesco Aloisi (Group 3) at Capannelle.
Talking about the plans for Overdose’s future, a visibly disappointed Zoltan Mikoczy stated that the next 15 days are extremely critical in making any decision on his summer campaign.
Yet he explained that if Overdose recovers quickly, he will start training in April this year. Moreover, he set sights on King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot, in which he ended up fourth last year.
