Injured Renault driver Robert Kubica eyeing mid season return in 2011 – Formula 1 news
Robert Kubica gave his first interview to media after he suffered a horrific accident in Italy. He said in his interview that he wants to come back halfway through the season.
The doctors still have to do some surgeries on his right arm and leg but he is confident of his return as he said that he wants to return this year and he is looking forward to a reduced recovery time.
When asked about his health he said, “The fingers work and so does the arm, I can feel them.” His doctors told that he is kept under sedated condition so that he doesn’t feel any pain. “On Saturday I will be able to know what my condition is after I undergo
the double surgery (arm and foot.)”
Kubica crashed his Skoda 2000 in a rail road. He was air lifted to a local hospital where he underwent seven hours of surgery on his right hand.
When asked about the crash he said, “I really don't know what happened because I don't remember anything of the accident, I just found myself in hospital and my agent Daniele Morelli has explained everything to me.”
He was very confident that he will walk away from it just as he did in 2007 Canadian Grand Prix crash where he only missed one race and was back in the driving seat again.
He also had an off the track accident in which his arm was broken in 2003. He said about those accidents that, “After this accident, you are no longer the same, you are better.”
He further said that it was his own decision to compete in rally. He explained that since the in-session testing is banned and there are only a limited number of test sessions nowadays, so rally is the best option to get some mileage behind the wheel.
When asked that he would ever rally again in his life he said he was not sure about that.
Kubica’s recovery will take at least three months, as the Renault team is already looking for a replacement driver. It will be interesting to see how Kubica manages to fully recover from his injuries and make a comeback into the Formula 1 arena.
