Injured Renault driver Robert Kubica wants Tonio Liuzzi to replace him – Formula 1 news
Lotus Renault GP’s Robert Kubica recently went through a terrible accident during a rally event this past week and almost lost his right hand as a result.
According to the doctors, his right hand is not functioning properly at the moment and he is going to have to go through an extremely tough time to recover and regain his reflexes once again.
At first, it was revealed that the doctors stated that Robert Kubica will never be able to race ever again in Formula 1 but after the first operation, it was revealed that he might recover fully and as a result, he might return after this season.
Either way, Lotus Renault GP needed to replace him at least for the 2011 Formula 1 season and the team decided to pick Nick Heidfeld, Tonio Liuzzi or Bruno Senna for the spot. It was quite shocking for the fans when these three names were revealed as it
was expected that Nico Hulkenberg would also be one of the top contenders for the spot.
The team later on revealed that they would test Nick Heidfeld during the second pre-season test session that took place in Jerez a couple of days ago and after its results, it seems that the team is pretty much satisfied with the German’s performance. They
also revealed that they have decided to sign him for the 2011 Formula 1 season but according to some recent reports, Robert has stated that he would like to see Tonio Liuzzi replace him rather than Nick Heidfeld.
One has to admit that the team decided quite hastily and they should have given Tonio Liuzzi and maybe Nico Hulkenberg a chance as well to showcase their respective performances as well.
It is believed that Kubica is still pushing hard for Tonio Liuzzi despite the fact that the Pole and Nick Heidfeld drove alongside each other a couple of years ago in BMW.
Liuzzi is a pretty close friend of Kubica and he was released from Force India this year despite the fact that he had a contract with them that was valid until the end of the 2011 Formula 1 season. He has been replaced by the team’s reserve driver Paul di
Resta alongside Adrian Sutil.
Nevertheless, it seems that the team has already decided to sign Nick Heidfeld but one has to admit, that out of these three drivers, Nick is the most experienced driver and his credentials are pretty impressive. He drove for BMW and scored a handful of
podiums as well despite the fact that his car was not as strong as the top running teams’ cars.
