Injured Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa makes strong comeback at Mugello – MotoGP news
Injured Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa made a strong comeback at Mugello in the Gran Premio d’Italia held on Sunday.
The Spaniard returned to racing after more than a month of rehabilitation process.
He suffered from fracture on his right collarbone after a crash at Le Mans in mid of May 2011. His crash occurred after a racing battle between him and the San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli. After retiring from the French GP with an accident,
he missed three events in a row at Catalunya, Silverstone and Assen.
Pedrosa said, “I'm very happy with my performance and the result was worth it in the end, even if I'm still far from 100% fit. Historically in the past, when I have tried to go back racing after an injury, I wasn't able to finish the race and today I managed
to.”
Earlier in the season when Pedrosa had a surgery between Jerez and Estoril, the Spaniard was victorious on his comeback at the Portuguese GP, but this time he was not lucky to finish close to the top riders.
The Spanish rider further said, “I see that even being out for a quite a long period of time, I haven't lost the speed, so I'm sure that I'll back on top when my physical condition improves.”
At the starting point in the race, Pedrosa faced a clutch problem which hampered his position to battle for the top five slots. The clutch malfunctioned and halted the gears on his RCV. He suffered from this problem for more than a lap.
After a while, the clutch started working and Pedrosa pushed hard to regain the flow in order to recover his lost position. Though he got tired shortly but still he wanted to do well in the race.
In his pursuit, he came close and then passed the riders group formed by Valentino Rossi, Hector Barbera and Alvaro Bautista. After reaching the position in the race, Pedrosa was out of strength to push any further. Being exhausted in the race he let everything
go and still managed an eighth place and eight points for his team.
