Injured Robert Kubica planning to attend Pope John Paul’s Beatification in May – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 Lotus-Renault injured driver Robert Kubica is planning to attend the beatification of his late Pope John Paul II, in Rome on May 1, 2011.
Reportedly, three hundred thousand pilgrims are expected to come in Rome for the beatification ceremony and making the first step to sainthood for the late Pope.
The 26-year-old Kubica is quickly recovering from his horrific rally accident, but he is still under the doctor’s observation in an Italian hospital for his recovery.
The reporters informed the Renault team that Kubica is recovering very well and it has surprised his doctors, because he was already able to put his weight on his injured foot and easily clasping the fist of his right hand. They further added that he will
leave the hospital very soon.
The Polish driver has undergone four surgeries until now. The first three surgeries made improvements in his physical condition, and the fourth surgery was conducted for his elbow’s recovery.
Recently, Renault doctor Riccardo Ceccarelli updated the media that Kubica needs long period to recover from his injuries that he sustained in the rally crash, in the early days of February. He also mentioned that but he is getting
better day by day, more than their expectations.
After three successful surgeries, Kubica underwent the physiotherapy programme and after that, he was able to move his right wrist and fingers. In the early days of March, he faced an extra surgery of his elbow for better movement of his arm.
Following his fourth operation, hospital doctors told the media, “This is not a surprise for us because we know Robert very well. But it is a big surprise for the doctors of the Pietra Ligure hospital. We are quite happy for this strong reaction. This is
the first positive thing in a traumatic situation.”
The injured driver considers lucky to himself as he went out from his serious condition. On the other hand, Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso and Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) president Jean Todt visited the hospital, before the start of the
2011 season. Alonso was happy after seeing his friends’ fast recovery from the massive injuries.
The season started with the Australian Grand Prix, where Renault drivers Vitaly Petrov and Nick Heidfeld performed well for their team, while in the Malaysian race, Heidfeld impressed the team by securing a third place for Renault.
Heidfeld admitted that Kubica is still a part of Renault team and said, “When I crossed the finish line, only the happy emotions entered my head. I will return as soon as possible and drive it.”
