Injured Travis Benjamin, Mohamed Massaquoi may miss Cleveland Browns next game – NFL News
Cleveland Browns wide receivers Travis Benjamin and Mohamed Massaquoi missed the team’s practice on Thursday (Oct. 04) and will be out of the side in this Sunday’s game versus the New York Giants while safety T.J. Ward might be able to return to action from
a thumb injury.
Both receivers are suffering hamstring injuries, respectively, and are going to miss the game after remaining absent from workout straight second time this week.
Although the team has not officially updated their status, they are likely to be on the sidelines until next weekend. Their status is expected to be updated by mid of next week and their ability to return to the team should be determined from then on.
Rookie wide receiver Josh Gordon is gearing up to accept additional responsibilities at their place, and the receiver has backing of offensive coordinator Brad Childress.
According to the coach, Gordon had an impressive workout session on past Wednesday and seems well prepared to effectively replace the players.
Gordon is a second-round and the only pick out of the supplement draft this year, and has shown promise of a great potential. The expected absence of the two main receivers gives him a rare opportunity to prove his credentials as a receiver. His game will
be crucial to overall performance of the offensive line, and particularly of quarterback Brandon Weeden.
Meanwhile, safety T.J. Ward joined the team for training on Thursday and holds an outright chance to be a part of the side this Sunday.
Ward was wearing a protective cast on his injured thumb but appeared to be not facing any particular problem in the day-long workout. He was injured in Browns’ game against the Baltimore Ravens on past weekend.
Later, this week, he had surgery and although he looked to have recovered, he is cautious to confirm his availability to just avoid a possibility of any complication.
Browns are yet to officially state if he is going to be a part of the squad against Giants, although the overall situation is in favour of the player at the moment.
