Injured back, what kind of doctor would you see?

Suppose you didn't have to go to your primary care physician. What type of specialist would you go and see to diagnose proper treatment?

Please don't say Chiropractor!

  1. I suggest you to go to your general practitioner, he will send you to the right specialist. This would be an osteopath or an orthopedic surgeon.

  2. An orthopedic surgeon.

  3. DO NOT go to a neurosurgeon nor a orthopedic specialist first, as they are surgeons and there answer will always involve surgery. While that may be what you need, go see a interventional pain management specialist, he will be able to treat you with injections and if need be refer you if you need surgery. Unfortunately this is not how it usually occurs and people are miserable after having surgery and wishing they knew what they now know.

  4. A neurosurgeon or a rehab medicine specialist or an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in back problems.

  5. I agree with the Pain management specialist previously mentioned in a prior post.  I went to my primary first, who then ushered me of to an Orthopedic. The Orthopedic sent me to physical therapy which did help. But in the land of wonderful insurance that caps out on a pre-set number of visits, it did not last.  When the Orthopedic starting talking surgery, I refused.  He then sent me to the Pain management specialist where I have found peace and harmony.

  6. i have an injured back too and i went to a chiropractor it helped a little bit for a while but then i think he made me worse. i am now seeing a neurologist after having a full spine MRI. this is the dr. i wish i had gone to see in the first place. so, i would go straight to a neurologist. best of luck hope you're feeling better soon!
