Question:

Injured leg/knee, but don't know exactly what's hurt

I've always had problems with my leg joints, specifically my right knee, and both ankles. I'm a soccer goalie, and I have the unfortunate tendency to get myself injured.

Earlier tonight I was playing Ultimate Frisbee in a park with my friends, and not really getting into it that much, but I dived in hard to get it once, and I think I landed on my bad knee.

Now, my knee, which has Osgood Schlatter Disease, hasn't hurt me in quite some time, say about four years (other than the off and on mild pains or irritations I get). After I got up from my jump, I noticed that my knee was kind of throbbing a little bit.

It started to get worse, but not by much, until it spread out to almost all of my leg. Now, it didn't hurt that much at that time, but then I biked home (about a kilometre) and started to notice a stiffness of my thigh muscle.

I went for a shower, and when I got out, I layed down on the couch to take pressure off of the leg. It's gotten progressively worse now, and my whole leg is in pain (I'm not sure how to describe the pain, or its intensity, as I have a quite high pain tolerance).

It's kind of situated mainly in my knee, and between my Osgood bump/growth and kneecap, it's slightly swollen.

It's almost a restless feeling travelling up my thigh, and not so much down my calve. However, when I was walking down a flight of stairs, my ankle started hurting on the inside top part of it, where if you ran your hand from the edge of your shin bone to your big toe, you'd cross the section.

I usually only have problems on my left ankle (outside, just below the bone thing) but I do sometimes have problems in the area below where my right ankle is hurting now.

What I don't understand is how all this could hurt from just one original injury, and what I should do/what might have happened.

As I said above, my thigh muscle is really tense, and it has spasmed tonight when I bent my leg.

  1. Worse case scenerio is that you have some nerve damage to you leg or it could just be that your hyperextended your leg and it is just sprained, but I would go and have a doctor check it out though.
