Injured right quad forces Florida Marlins’ Mike Stanton out – MLB News
It seems as if the problems for the Florida Marlins have started because the right-handed outfielder Mike Stanton has suffered an injury in his right quadriceps.
Stanton suffered the injury when he was running to first base on Sunday, February 27 as Florida lost to University of Miami 9-8 at Roger Dean Stadium. While running between bases, Stanton fell down as the pain from his injury was serious. He was helped off
the field by the trainers.
The Marlins will be seriously disappointed as Stanton was having a tremendous spring exhibition session. He was having a stand out performance for the team before getting injured.
Although there is no clear indication on when Stanton will be able to return to the Marlins’ line-up, he will definitely need to rest for awhile for his injury to heal.
Stanton said, “I think the next couple of days will [give us] a better feel on a time frame. We really will not know for at least 24 or 48 hours. We will see how it is Monday. Better now than April 1.”
Stanton has been a star player for the Marlins, as in the last season he managed 59 RBIs and an amazing 22 home-runs in 100 games that he played. He was looking all set to repeat with the same high quality performance this year as he had hit a massive home-run
during Sunday’s game against the University of Miami.
The Marlins’ management is also slightly worried as they know that players like Stanton are needed during Spring Training and then the regular season to build confidence and consistency in the team. It is very important for the team to go into the regular
season at full strength as all the top teams are usually looking to dominate in the first few weeks to get a good start to their respective standings.
“It would have been nice if he could have hung in there a little longer. Hopefully we have time on our side and he’ll be OK. Injuries are part of the game," Beinfest said. "You never like to see them happen, whether it's Day 1 or a couple of months from
now. Hopefully, we have time on our side."
Stanton will inevitably be upset at the timing and nature of his injury. He was having a tremendous exhibition session for the Marlins which has now come to a screeching halt. Stanton understands the importance of Spring Training and the effect it has on
building confidence within the players and the team to face the grueling regular season. He will not want to miss that much time from the session and quite possibly lose form. Not to mention the effect it will have on his team-mates in their performance.
Only time will tell how serious the injury to Stanton is and the amount of time that he will be required to stay out of the action for a full recovery. The Marlins will be hoping that he gets back into the line-up as soon as possible and continue with his
brilliant form during Spring Training.
