Injured running back Steven Jackson will be a game time decision
The St. Louis Rams' starting running back, Steven Jackson, is unsure whether or not he'll be ready to go this weekend when the Rams take on their division rivals the Seattle Seahawks.
Jackson has now missed two straight days of practice after hurting his groin in the Rams' 30-16 victory over the Redskins last Sunday where he was held to 58 yards on just 10 carries.
"Today in rehab, the leg's still tight, the groin's still tight, so it's just one of those injuries where just time is what's really going to heal the injury," Jackson said Thursday.
Rams offensive coordinator, Pat Shurmer, will have be crafty and find new ways to supply rookie quarterback Sam Bradford with a consistent rushing option. Third year running back Kenneth Darby will likely be asked to handle most of the duties of the Rams
ground game should Jackson be unable to go.
"We try to put the scheme together with the idea that our best players are going to be in there," Shurmer said. "Obviously, Steven being in the game is of some importance."
Although Shurmer stressed the value of having their veteran starter in the game he was also quick defend Darby's ability to step and fill the void, referring to last week's game, "I thought (Darby) did a terrific job," he said. "The key to a role player
is being able to come in and execute having had very few reps through the week."
Darby ran for a career high 49 yards on 14 attempts last week against the Redskins.
Although the injury seems to be bothering Jackson, he didn't completely rule out his being in the lineup for Sunday's game as he stressed the importance of coming away with a victory, "This is Seattle at home, where we're only one game back in our division.
Although it's early in the season, this game has a lot that come out victorious, that does a lot for us in our season. I will be there early Sunday seeing if I can run and cut and seeing if I can go out there and give my team a lift."
