  1. The synovial joints are delicate but strong in the sense of the word. Sports men and women have to take a lot of care of the joints. Impact injuries can be painful and can recover from quite easily. Impact injuries such as tackles in rugby, football etc are the causes of these. Typically these are fractures or dislocations and can result in months of injury.

The other type of injury is caused by the waring down of the membrane and joint. The erosion can be a major cause of pain. It is common in old age and some sports experience it more than others. Jumpers, tennis players (tennis elbow) all experience this at some point. This type will require surgery and in some cases replacement of the joint.

Injuries to joints also does do limit itself to sport. Certain jobs that do not revolve around sport can have an affect on joints. Heavy lifting and typing can wear joints down.

So with the injuries in mind preventing them is a must. This means resting the joints after each activity and not over doing it during training. Also common sense will play a part for example not going into a reckless challenge. There are products to help keep healthy joints such as glucosamine and wearing supports where necessary.
