Injuries cost Ian McCulloch to tumble down in World Snooker Rankings – Snooker News
England’s Ian McCulloch was in the World Top 16 during his prime in the 2005-06 Snooker Season as he performed brilliantly during his campaign. However, he started having problems in his neck and shoulders. His body started to give him some pain due to some
injuries which were definitely harmful not only for his body but for his career too.
However, despite his injuries, McCulloch continued playing at the baize for the next couple of seasons which made these injuries more severe. Thus, he had to say good-bye to the game in order to get properly treated. Due to the injuries, the English potter
was unable to perform according to the standards and tumbled down in the standings as he slipped down to World Number 68.
While speaking to the local media about his injuries, McCulloch said, “I got back playing but I made decisions not to play in some of the many tournaments which are on the circuit now. That cost me ranking points and I just decided that after 20 years being
a professional snooker player, this was the right time to stop.”
He added, “People think you go on forever and if I’d just plodded around the lower rankings, it might not have been such an easy thing to finish because I’d be trying for more.”
The Englishman crashed out of the 2012 World Snooker Championship qualifying session Round 4 at the hands of Belgium’s Luca Brecel by the score line of 10-2. After losing to the youngster in the qualifiers, McCulloch decided to retire from World Snooker
because he was thinking to get his injuries treated and the second reason was the addition of new snooker events in the yearly calendar.
McCulloch wanted to spend time with his family while playing professionally but with more snooker events in a season, it was almost impossible for him to take part in all the events including the qualifying matches so he thought it is better to resign from
the game. Ian is a tremendous player with immense talent. The fans will be hoping that he decides to return to snooker in the near future as he will be missed from the new season.
