Question:

Injuries from punching a bag?

A majority of my fellow training brothers claim they had injure their shoulders (esp) from hitting the bag the wrong way, i.e before they received proper instruction. Usually it involves loosening of the shoulder socket.

At my gym, there's even a trainer who was once an enthusiastic martial arts student until he injured his shoulder from hitting the bag the wrong way.

  1. I don't know what your question is but it sounds like they need to learn how to punch. You can't just go around swinging your fists.

  2. You can ABSOLUTELY injure yourself!

    THEREFORE

Get proper instruction before you start practicing.

  3. i dont really understand the question so the best answer i can give would be yes youcan get hurt hitting a punching bag. but you can hurt yourself hitting a punching bag even after you have done some training and learnt to punch. if you just do something wrong.

  4. whats your question

  5. Yeah, the heavy bag isn't the best training tool to use.

It is pretty immobile...which both is impractical in terms of self-defense. Also, like you said, can lead to injury. I've never heard of shoulder injuries from heavy bag work, but I've seen and had wrist injuries. They really take the wind out of your sail.

And yes, we must warm up properly before training.

The best bag work is a partner with hand pads. They move around and make you move around. You have to strike like you do for real.

Hmmm, the one thing that heavy bags are good for are to toughen your joints and bones through repetitive striking. You have to start off easy though...which takes more discipline than most students have...thus the injuries.

  6. First simple advice please be clear on the topics u r asking the question.

Dont do the job untill u have the knowledge,it may be punching the bag or working with electric/elctronic.
