Injuries hit Jacksonville Jaguars just before Detroit Lions game – NFL News
A big question mark is looming over the Jacksonville Jaguars’ ability to sustain on the starting secondary given their key starters are uncertain for the weekend game against the Detroit Lions.
Cornerback Rashean Mathis and safety Dwight Lowery have been ruled out with groin and foot injury, respectively. They did not join the team for practice on Friday and are unlikely for Sunday (Nov. 04) game.
The team in the meantime has left CB Derek Cox questionable for the Lions game, which adds to the team’s difficulties in giving a sustainable performance on the secondary and overall defence.
It is pertinent to mention that the trio missed the last game as well, and since the players were not part of the practice squad this week, the question of their ability to make themselves available just before start of the game has assumed greater importance
now.
More alarmingly, the team will be without their star rusher RB Maurice Jones-Drew with a foot injury. His absence might prove fatal to the team’s hopes to claim second win of the season.
Meanwhile, the Jaguars have left the offence leader QB Blaine Gabbert with a shoulder injury as probable for the next game. He is joined by wide receiver Laurent Robinson and centre Brad Meester with concussion and foot injury, respectively.
Although Blaine has fallen short of giving a match-winning performance this season, his absence is still significant blow to the Jaguars. Blaine is an apparent scapegoat of Jaguars’ poor showing this season but they have failed as a team and the responsibility
lies on all the players and officials alike.
Coach Mike Mularkey is still hopeful of the team staging a tight comeback given the last two games have been very competitive and they lost them with a very narrow margin. It might be a costlier decision for the coach to keep his reliance on Gabbert, though.
Soon after taking over the Jaguars as head coach Mularkey had meeting with Gabbert and asked him to improve his performance or think of alternatives. Although the official had not mentioned about the alternatives, the most likely is to lose job.
