Injuries sideline Anthony Kim and Erik Compton during the opening round of Valero Texas Open – Golf News
Two famous players, Anthony Kim and Erik Compton, announced to withdraw from the Valero Texas Open during the first round, on Thursday, April 19, 2012.
Kim was through 14 holes at the Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio when he cited a wrist injury to leave the field. He was eight-over par for the round at the time of his withdrawal from the event.
Kelly Tilghman, a female broadcaster for The Golf Channel, told that Kim started feeling pain in his wrist from the very first hole that he played.
This is the same injury that sidelined him after he completed his first round at the Shell Houston Open this year.
Therefore, he now plans to take it seriously and headed for Dallas to get a complete check-up and MRI to evaluate the injury condition.
Kim is currently facing the worst form, as he missed the cut six times in the eight events that he has played so far in the 2012 PGA Tour season.
Tied for the 42nd place was his best finish, which came in the Honda Classic, after carding a three-over par tournament score. Moreover, he has not been able to break the par in all the events that he has played.
On the other hand, Compton also withdrew after feeling unfit during the game. He was through nine holes and decided not to play the remaining nine in order to avoid risking his health.
Later in the evening, he told that he was “fine” and was feeling better after going out of the field of the event.
Unlike Kim, Compton has a better record in making the cuts this year. He has played a total of nine events and made the cut seven times. However, he has not been able to record a single top-25 finish so far in the 2012 season.
According to golf analysts, he must take a few weeks off in order to feel completely fit for the game.
Compton has played a total of 30 events on the PGA Tour as a non-member through sponsor exemptions from 2000 to 2011. Tied for the 25th position in the 2011 Northern Trust Open was the best finish of his career on the tour.
