Injuries to key players pave way for Philadelphia Eagles backups – NFL News
As some of Philadelphia Eagles’ players are sidelined with injuries, the backups are considering it a blessing in disguise.
Although the injuries are not very serious and the affected players will be able to join their teammates soon during the ongoing training camp, the backups are taking it as an opportunity to showcase what they have got.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Eagles defensemen Jason Babin, Trent Cole and Cullen Jenkins are injured at the moment and Darryl Tapp, Brandon Graham and Philip Hunt are filling in for the injured players.
Tapp said on Wednesday, August 01, 2012:
“Today was a blessing in disguise for two reasons. Trent and Babin's injuries weren't serious, so they'll be fine. But it gives our younger guys an opportunity to get some quality reps against our explosive offence."
The Eagles have entered training camp with no confirmation about their squad that will represent them in the regular season. Eagles head coach Andy Reid has made it clear that every player will be treated equally during the camp.
Defensive coach Jim Washburn has also said that anybody could be their starter and this has encouraged the players playing at backup positions. Tapp said:
“Coach Washburn expects us all to be starters. And that's how all we approach the game."
Defensive end Brandon Graham, who has played two seasons with the Eagles, considers this a great opportunity to exhibit his talent. He said:
"I envision it every day and all I can say is that everybody needs to keep watching. We're all working out there and we're all going to do what it takes to do well out there.”
Meanwhile, Hunt has also echoed the same sentiments. He thinks that every year is a chance for him to further improve on his performance and it will one day make him part of the starting line-up.
It is good to see the backups taking up the responsibility in absences of the starters. Although the injured players will be back soon to join the squad, the backups can make it to the active 53-man roster in the regular season and can be utilised when needed in case of emergencies.
