Injuries won't force Michael Vick to change the way he plays
Despite coming off a rib injury which forced him to miss three games, Michael Vick is not about to change the way he plays football.
It was Vick's scrambling style that led to him being injured in a week 4 matchup against the Washington Redskins, but after making his return from injury against the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday, 7 November,
Vick was at it again, running 10 times for 74 yards including diving into the endzone behind his line for the game's winning touchdown.
"I play this game the way I play it and I'm not going to change," Vick told reporters recently. "I think I did a good job protecting myself at times and I think at times when I knew the hit wasn't going
to be as devastating, I was able to protect myself. I'm not going to play this game scared or hesitant or conservative."
Vick's performance was clearly unaffected by the extended layoff. Besides scampering for 74 yards along the ground, Vick also threw for 218 yards and a touchdown and is the only quarterback in the NFL
to have started at least two games and have yet to throw an interception.
Vick has often ignored the advice of coaches and team-mates to stay in the pocket more, and he's not about to let a injury change his style.
"I'm going to go out and give 110 percent, give it everything I have and I think at the end of the day, I just want to be able to tell myself I gave it everything I had and I didn't hold anything back,"
he said. "Regardless of what happens out there, whether I run and get hurt or I don't, it's just me playing my game."
Eagles coach Andy Reid knows all too well how hard it is to keep a player like Vick in the pocket. "It's going to be hard holding him back," he said. "I've talked to him, and he's one of the more competitive
guys that I've been around. He loves to play the game. It's hard, because you don't want to take anything away from his game. You know he did run out of bounds one time. I was really fired up about that. He's making a little progress."
