Injury Ravaged Green Bay Packers take on struggling Arizona Cardinals - NFL Preview
The Green Bay Packers will be looking to continue with their winning momentum on Sunday as they face struggling Arizona Cardinals at the Lambeau Field.
It won’t be an easy task for Green Bay with the franchise struggling to cope with a host of injuries to some of their main players and it will take the remaining squad to step up if the Packers wish to take their winning streak to four straight games.
The Packers will be without receivers, Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson while they will also miss running back Cedric Benson, defensive back Charles Woodson, and defensive ends Jerel Worthy and Mike Neal.
With such a large number missing it will be interesting to see the names on the field when Green Bay takes to the field on Sunday.
The Packers though are not making any excuses and coach Mike McCarthy said that the players are completely focussed on getting a win over the Arizona Cardinals even with their depleted roster.
Speaking about the injuries ravaging the roster he said:
"The injuries are part of the game. It's unfortunate on a personal level. There's things that go on in our world in the game of football that are just unsaid. It's just the way you go about your business. It's what you accept and it's part of the grind of
an NFL season."
Adding further he said:
"The players clearly know the importance of this game. We may have made the mistake of looking forward to the bye week in the past, and that's losing your focus. We're focused on the Cardinals."
At Lambeau Field, the Packers will be favourites to notch up a win over the Cardinals who have regressed massively over the last four weeks.
Arizona started off the season with a bang notching up four wins in a row with some brilliant performances but their run came to an end in week five and the team has failed to recover since then.
A long term injury to starting quarterback Kevin Kolb against the Buffalo Bills did not help the Cardinals and the franchise has struggled to regain form under backup John Skelton who has passed for just a single touchdown in his two starts while throwing
four interceptions this year.
They will now look to avoid a fifth straight defeat on Sunday and an injury ravaged Green Bay Packers side might provide them with just the opportunity needed to end their losing run.
Even against a Packers side missing some of their best players, the Cardinals will have to perform better in offence where they currently rank 31st overall in the league.
Against San Francisco the Cardinals could gain only seven yards on the rush which is their lowest since 1953.
Green Bay’s winning momentum and home field advantage will give them an edge with the Packers expected to win the tough encounter.
