Injury Riddled Goalie, Ray Emery to try out for Chicago Blackhawks during training camp –NHL Update
Not staying healthy to play a full season due to injuries has put Ray Emery’s career in question on whether he will be able to continue performing as a goalie or not. Not being re-signed after his one-year contract expired with Anaheim Ducks, the unrestricted
free agent accepted an offer by Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday to try out during training camp in September.
There is no official report regarding when the invitation was sent by Chicago for Emery but it is clear now that the 28-year-old goalie has accepted and is willing to give it a shot.
It was learned by Emery’s agent that he will be participating in Chicago Blackhawks training camp which is set to kickoff in September and the opportunity will be available for him to be signed by October 1 that is if the franchise finds him valuable.
The Hamilton, Ontario, Canada native, was selected 99th overall during round-four of the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft by Ottawa Senators. He continued to play with his original draft team for five seasons until being signed on
to Philadelphia Flyers. Since then, Emery has not been able to find a starter position or a permanent home team.
Last season, Emery was signed on by Anaheim ducks, but was faced with a major hip injury which was deemed to be a career ender. Miraculously, he recovered from a critical surgery and made an impressive comeback in 10 games out of seven which were victories
with a .926 save percentage and 2.28 goals against average.
According to his agent, J.P. Barry, Emery is working hard to impress a franchise so he can be signed on to a more long-term contract.
"He's been training every day still with his trainer Matt Nichol", Barry said in an interview. "He's had a complete 100 percent recovery".
At the moment, Emery is expected to be competing for a backup position to Chicago’s starting goalie, Corey Crawford. With his comeback near the end of last season and rumours about his dedication to training, it will not be surprising to hear that Ray Emery
has surpassed Blackhawks expectations in September at their training camp.
