Injury a blessing in disguise for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397 – Cricket News Update
Mahela Jayawardene, the Sri Lankan captain, is disappointed to have lost his premier player, Kumar Sangakkara, for the rest of the limited-overs series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. But he thinks that the injury may turn out to be a blessing in
disguise for the wicketkeeper/batsman, because of which he has got some time to rest.
The left-handed batsman faced a blow on his hand during the third of the five-match One Day International (ODI) series against the Men in Blue at Colombo, consequently fracturing one of his fingers.
Quite surprisingly, the 34-year-old cricketer carried on with his innings and refused to retire-hurt, considering the state of the match. Sangakkara went on to score a crucial 73 off 95 balls with the help of five boundaries, helping
his team post a competitive total (286 for the loss of five wickets) on the board.
His fighting knock however, went in vain, with the home team outclassed by the Indian batsmen in the second innings, who chased down the total with five wickets to spare.
With two ODIs and a T20 still to be played in the competition, Sangakkara’s absence will hurt http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758’s chances, who are already falling behind (1-2) in the series. Apart from being the mainstay of the Islanders’ batting, Kumar
always gives valuable advice to his skipper on the field.
Jayawardene however, is seeing the positive side of things and feels that the Matale-born cricketer needed a break to freshen up before the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 2012, which will be played in Sri Lanka in September/October.
"He hasn't had a break for nearly two years so if you look at it that way, it's unfortunate but he gets a deserving break. Hopefully he will get fit for the World Cup [World Twenty20]," Jayawardene said.
The captain further added that Sangakkara’s absence will provide a massive opportunity to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LD-Chandimal-c1831 to showcase his skills behind the stumps.
He added, "Kumar behind the wickets is always the added factor for me as a captain because he sees things and he can analyse them and let me know certain things. It's a big opportunity for him [Dinesh Chandimal, who is] keeping wickets
after a long time."
