Injury concerns embroil Sri Lanka ahead of Centurion Test - Cricket News Update
With just two days to go in to the first Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779, became the latest to join the Lankan injury list after hurting his right hand during
a practice match against SA Invitation XI in Benoni on the weekend.
The 34-year-old experienced Sri Lanka batsman had split the webbing between the index and second finger of his right hand and was unable to bat in the remainder of the warm up game.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 team management said that the former skipper is on course to a quick recovery and hoped he will be fit in time for the first Test of the three-match series starting on Thursday, December 15, 2011 in Centurion.
Sri Lankan team manager, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anura-Punchi-Banda-Tennekoon-c45208 told the media reporters about Sangakkara’s injury and recent condition.
"Sanga has split the webbing on his right hand, but it's okay, he's recovering well and, according to the medical experts, he should be fine for the first test," said Tennekoon while talking to the media reporters on Monday.
Another injury concern for the Islanders is 25-year-old fast bowler Nuwan Pradeep, who has picked up a hamstring strain and is likely to head back home to undergo a rehab programme. Team manager Anura Tennekoon confirmed Pradeep’s injury. However he said
that they have not yet decided a replacement for the pacer.
"Nuwan Pradeep will likely have to return home and be replaced. The replacement hasn't been decided yet because the selectors want to look at a few bowlers in domestic matches first. So it's unlikely the replacement will arrive in time for the first test."
With an hamstring injury to Pradeep, fast bowling prospects of Sri Lanka are less positive as experienced pace bowlers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ranaweera-Mudiyanselage-Shaminda-Eranga-c83939 and Dhammika Prasad were all ruled out of the itinerary before leaving for South Africa.
The latest string of injuries could be a huge blow for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691 who has been struggling for a series win in any format of the game since taking over as Sri Lanka captain in May earlier this year.
