The playmaker claimed that ulcerative colitis could have ended his career prematurely and that he was never going to be fully fit ever again in his life after a nightmarish year or so.
One of the most loved players at Old Trafford, Darren Fletcher’s illness raised a lot of hue and cry in Manchester after the midfielder had to take time off from professional football.
The talented maestro spent most of the last nine months recovering from the chronic bowel condition but if things hadn’t gone his way, he would have been forced to quit the beautiful game for good.
Doctors reiterated that contact sports would be inflammatory for his condition and thus prevented him from taking part in Manchester United’s quest for silverware.
As such there was not much hope of a comeback, but Fletcher was able to defy the odds and soon resumed training in August, with a match looming large.
Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson gave him a run-out against Aberdeen and after being impressed with his display allowed him to start playing with the first team. Fletch featured in the UEFA Champions League tie with Galatasaray before making his first start against Newcastle
United in the Capital One Cup.
Now after successfully taking part in the last few games, it looks like the 28-year-old will finally be able to pick up where he left, although the situation could have ended much more sinisterly.
Fletcher, while speaking to the media, has now revealed that he could have hung up his boots if the illness had restricted his playing ability and that even now he was never going to be completely back to normal.
"The doctors just needed to find out if not playing would make me healthier. Then I would have been left with a decision to make. Do I want to play football or do I want to live a healthy life?” But deep down I was always confident it wasn't going to end
that way. I always felt we would find a medication that would work."
"The condition never goes away and that's the thing I have to live with. Every day is a battle for me. I have to watch my diet and take certain medication or it could come back.”
