Injury forces Anand Pawar to concede walkover in the title match of Dutch International 2012
Due to an unusual injury in abdomen muscle of India’s in-form shuttler Anand Pawar forced him to concede walkover to Indonesia’s Andre Kurniawan Tedjono in the Men’s Singles title match of Dutch International 2012, which ended on Sunday, April 15, in Netherlands.
The World Number 63 Pawar, who is the son of India’s former great player Uday Pawar, has been playing tremendous badminton for the last one month and he also grabbed Men’s Singles title in last week’s French International 2012.
At Dutch International, the 25-year-old Pawar was impressive as he got passed many top seeded players in his way towards final.
However, an injury forced him to concede walkover as playing in the final would have caused aggravation to his injury ahead of India Open Super Series starting from the last week of current month.
While talking about his injury, Pawar said that he felt it in his last match but he did not take it serious.
Nevertheless, he was having a swear pain in his abdomen muscle when he woke up on the final day of the event.
He said, "I woke up with some pain in my abdomen muscle which I also felt yesterday (Saturday) after the match (semifinal) but didn't think it was anything serious. I got it checked by the physio, who said it might be a slight tear which could be aggravated
if I play and become a big tear.”
While justifying his withdrawal from the final of Dutch International, Pawar explained that he did not want to take risk and spare a couple of months on bed particularly when important tournaments are ahead.
Pawar accepted the advice of his doctor and decided not to compete in the title match.
He said, "It was a big risk (playing the final). Obviously, I didn't want to be out of the circuit for two months particularly when I am in good form."
Now, Pawar’s next assignments are not far away as he will be competing in two tournaments in the next three weeks including the home tournament of India Open and also Malaysia Open GP Gold.
