Injury forces Chris Morris out of T20 series – Cricket News Update
All-rounder Chris Morris, who made his debut for South Africa in their first T20I of the ongoing 3-match series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, has been ruled out of the remainder of the series after he aggravated a quad injury he had previously sustained, while bowling
at Kingsmead in Durban on December 21.
Morris, the only fast-bowling all-rounder to have been included in the squad for the series, was part of the Highveld Lions’ line-up that made it to the final of the Champions League Twenty20 this year in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, and is known for being a big hitter,
in addition to having consistently bowled around speeds of mid-140kph this season.
Morris picked up 2 for 19 as the Proteas annihilated the touring Kiwis in a crushing 8-wicket defeat, but ended up aggravating a quad muscle injury, which forced him to leave the field in the middle of his final over, and subsequently saw him ruled out of
the remainder of the T20 series against the Black Caps.
“It was the same injury he was struggling with prior to the game,” said Mohammed Moosajee, South Africa's team manager. “He went through the full fitness protocol, he did his fitness tests and had recovered, but when he was bowling his fourth over, he went
for one of those effort balls where he tried to bowl a short ball and that's where he probably aggravated it. He's going to need a recovery period of two to three weeks, so he's out of the series.”
Team management, meanwhile, has been tinkering with the line-up – fiery pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Morkel-c73528 had been drafted in for the two remaining T20Is. Replacements have
also not been named for the injured Morris, as well as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LL-Tsotsobe-c1842, who was earlier ruled out for three weeks owing to an ankle injury.
Following the demolition at Durban, which saw the Proteas bowling out the visitors for a dismal 86, the teams will be facing off at Buffalo Park in East London and St George's Park in Port Elizabeth for the remaining T20Is, to be played on December 23 and
26 respectively.
