Injury hampers Jeremy Wariner’s inclusion in the World Championships squad – Athletics news
Jeremy Wariner, the 27-year-old American track athlete, who specialises in 400m meets, after marred by a foot injury, will not be able to contest at the upcoming IAAF World Athletics Championships. Wariner, who has always been a key player for USA in both
400m plain and 4x400m relay races, had his ligament in the second toe of the left foot tore last month during a training session.
Missing out the global athletics competition would certainly not be less than an emotional setback, nevertheless, composing himself well, while sharing his future plans, Wariner said, “Right now my focus is to get healthy, prepare for next season, and try
for my second 400m Olympic gold.”
According to news, the athlete may not require an operation for his injury to heal, but a complete rest along with proper medication for about 12 weeks is required. The physical hindrance the American runner has faced just ahead of the world athletics championships
must have been hurting, but given the fact that this entire season of his has been through similar glitches, he can expect to get rid of this emotional bereft soon.
Wariner, the Texas born athlete, has bagged four Olympic medals so far, out of which, three are gold and one is silver. Moreover, his profile also boasts of a staggering six world championships medals. For the 400m run, his specialised discipline, the American
is regarded as the third fastest runner in the history of the sport, as his Personal Best stands at an impressive 43.45 seconds.
Despite of a season marred by injuries, Wariner observed his 12th fastest finish this year, however, while appearing at the US Championships, he could not stand the sprints unleashed by Tony McQuay. With Wariner missing out the plane to Daegu,
Jamaal Torrance, the runner who had finished fourth in US team trials, will most likely be the player to represent USA at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in South Korea. The event is set to commence on August 27 and will conclude on September 4.
