Injury jeopardizes Acclamation’s chances in the Grade 1, $ 1 million TVG Pacific Classic
Acclamation was the centre of attention for the Grade 1, $ 1 million TVG Pacific Classic at Del Mar on 26th August, 2012, but Acclamation will not stack up another victory on top of so many, after incurring an injury.
Trained by Donald Warren, the runner was training well for the big event. On 9th August, 2012, he completed a six-furlong work-out in 1 minute and 11.20 seconds. On 13th August, it was discovered that the runner had a slight swelling
in his left ankle.
Regarding this, E.W. "Bud" Johnston told the press that the runner will not be able to defend his title in the event. He further stated:
"Three days ago we were thrilled with the way he was looking and acting, then he came out of a gallop with a slight filling."
The owner added:
"It might just be a lousy little strain, but it could develop into something serious and it's probably going to keep us out of the Pacific Classic. We're only concerned about what's right for the horse."
The connections are doing what is in the best interest of the runner by not confirming his entry in the Pacific Classic. Trainer Donald Warren said that it could be a minor infection but it still needs to be looked into.
The six-year-old runner was preparing for the Grade 1 Del Mar Handicap which covers a distance of 1 3/8 miles, and will take place on 25th August, 2012. This race might be possible if Acclamation recovers.
The runner has done wonders in his career, he holds an overall record of 11-2-6 in 30 starts and has earned over $ 1.9 million dollars in his career.
This season, the bay horse collected two victories in a grand fashion. In June, 2012, he defended his title successfully in the Grade 1 Charles Whittingham Memorial Handicap at the Betfair Hollywood Park.
At Del Mar, he was instant success in July, 2012, as he claimed the Grade 1 Eddie Read Stakes for the second time in a row.
This is just a setback and Acclamation will bounce right back soon enough.
