Injury nagged New England Patriots’ Tom Brady in Super Bowl game – NFL News Update
News is surfacing in the National football League (NFL) that the New England Patriots’ quarterback, Tom Brady played through the Super Bowl game with an ailing injury to his left shoulder.
The speculation was forwarded in a report released by the Boston Herald.
Brady has been reported to have played the second half of the game with an injury which he sustained as a result of being sacked by the New York Giants’ defensive end, Justin Tuck in the third quarter of the game.
Brady already had a nagging sprain in his left shoulder which grew serious after he took in the hit from Tuck.
During the game, Brady was seen to slowly get up after he took the hit and left for the sidelines though he did not take any medical treatment.
The Patriots had then probably planned to hurl in backup quarterback, Brian Hoyer, but Brady soon returned to the field.
This has initiated a lot of debate over whether Brady should have been allowed some rest and that Brady could have possibly performed better had the injury not nagged him.
Brady’s performance before and after the hit he took does point out to that.
Earlier on before being sacked, Brady completed 20 of 24 passes for 201 yards, but after sustaining the hit, he could complete a mere 7 of 17 passes for 75 yards.
The most likely cause seems that Brady’s performance could have been possibly affected as a result of being sacked.
He was already ailing from a left shoulder injury and the doctors had him surrounded after he returned to the sidelines.
It could possibly be that the Patriots were trying to hide from the Giants that their quarterback was suffering from any problem.
Although the problem was with regards to his non-throwing shoulder, yet it seems that the problem continued to nag him which was evident in his declined performance.
It is worth noting that the same shoulder problem had made him miss out one of the practices earlier on.
The Patriots, who were at 17 points at the time of the sack, did not score a single point afterwards and went on to lose to the Giants, 21-17.
This is the second time that the Giants have come out to beat the Patriots in a Super Bowl event, the first time in 2008.
Brady completed 27 of 41 passes for 276 yards in the game and scored two touchdowns while going in for one interception.
