Injury plagued New York Yankees look for the quick return of Alex Rodriguez and Nick Swisher
The sprained left thumb continues to increase Alex Rodriguez woes as he has been rendered unable to play. The New York Yankees hitter has remained in and (mostly) out for last few months owing to the injuries. The fact that he missed Saturday night’s game
against the Detroit Tigers added to his and the team’s frustration.
The loss to the Tigers was, beyond any shadow of doubt a huge setback for the team, but the back-to-back injuries of Alex Rodriguez and then Nick Swisher could well exacerbate the worries of the Yankees.
"I think Alex's thumb might be more of a continual problem," Girardi said. "Swish is probably just a few days' rest or some medicine, some treatment; he should be okay. Tendinitis usually clears up. But Alex, we'll just have to wait."
However, the good news for the Yankees came after it was brought to light that Nick Swisher had nothing to worry about. Having injured his left elbow on Saturday, there were fears and concerns that he might have to go for long should any serious structural
damage on his elbow be discovered.
Given the fact that the New York Yankees do not have a reliable weapon like Alex Rodriguez at their disposal at the second half of the season, Swisher’s injury would have been of a worry of unimaginable magnitude. The fear unsettled Swisher himself.
"Anytime you go for an MRI, you don't know; I've never really had pains in my elbow," Swisher said. "It's a bummer, because right now, you want to be in there every day.”
The New York Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi thinks that Alex Rodriguez may not be playing for the next three or four days; this comes when the trainers advised the hitter to rest to avoid any further injury. The fact that Alex Rodriguez has not been able to
play with the authority he is known for does arise some concerns in the team; something that even Joe Giradi mentioned.
But as soon as Rodriguez makes his way back to the Yankees, he is expected to swing his bat with the required authority so as to contribute to the team's victory. His tremendous skill and potentially dangerous presence brings fear into the hearts of many
teams that will be facing the Yankees. His ability to hit the ball at will is a valuable asset for the team.
However, as the injuries take their toll on the New York Yankees, there is a lot that the team wishes to do. For that, first and foremost and quite obviously, it will be the quick and safe return of the players.
