Injury prone Thomas Levet pulled out of many tournaments this year
No doubt golfers are prone to numerous injuries. The players may be forced to take time off from the game, depending on the severity of their injury.
Among the players who had a tough time dealing with injuries, Thomas Levet’s struggle is worth mentioning.
He missed the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, scheduled in January 2012, as he had recently suffered a rib injury in the Volvo Golf Champions, a week before the event.
That was not the first time he had pulled out of any top-rated tournament. In 2011, he missed the British Open, as he broke his leg after he earned a superb French Open victory.
He was celebrating his win at the French Open and jumped into the pond on the golf course. The celebrations turned into a misery when he found a rock in the water hazard and suffered a severe injury to his leg.
A similar thing happened prior to his appearance in the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship.
He was playing in the Volvo Golf Champions and fell from the staircase, which caused an injury to his ribs. However, he continued to play the event in pain and finished last on the leaderboard.
Following the tournament’s finish on Sunday, he decided to have a complete check-up. The X-Rays were taken on Tuesday, which revealed that he had damaged his ribs severely and will be unable to play for the next four to six weeks.
"Flip, flop, splash, plouch in the bush, fell on stairs on 11th hole last week," Levet wrote on Twitter.
"Will have to miss 3 to 6 weeks. Holidays are on the way, I could not carry more than 160m off the tee and +3 Sunday in those conditions was a miracle," he added.
Doctors had advised him complete rest until the injury was completely healed. Otherwise, he would have faced severe consequences, which could lead to his life-long absence from the golf course.
The Abu Dhabi Golf Championship was played on the prestigious Abu Dhabi Golf Club, featuring some of the big names of golf.
The current world number one Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer, and the legendary Tiger Woods were also in the field.
Levet expressed that it was his wish to play an event where he was supposed to compete against top-ranked players. Meanwhile, Sam Little from England replaced him on the field of Abu Dhabi.
Hopefully, the 2013 golf season will be a smooth sail for Levet. It is expected that his fans will get to see more of him on the golf course.
