Injury report for the New England Patriots – NFL News Update
New England Patriots tight end, Rob Gronkowski missed yet another practice on Wednesday and was the only Patriots player missing from the field.
Gronkowski missed the second consecutive practice sessions conducted in Indianapolis.
Prior to the arrival of the Patriots in Indianapolis, Gronkowski had not participated in two practice sessions.
The status of Gronkowski has been uncertain ever since he sustained a left ankle injury while playing against the Baltimore Ravens, in the AFC Championship game on January 22.
The Patriots won the game 23-20 but had their tight end injured. The injury happened towards the ending minute of the third quarter as Gronkowski took in a 23-yard reception. Though Gronkowski did not stay out of action for a long time from the field and
returned quickly after having his ankle re-taped.
Gronkowski’s latest absence comes just four days before the Patriots are poised to face the New York Giants in the Super Bowl game this coming Sunday.
Just two days before, Gronkowski sounded optimistic about his return to the team for the Super Bowl, saying he was working with the coaching staff and wanted to help his team.
“I’m just going day by day, every single day, just working with the training staff, and whatever the training staff wants me to do, that’s what I’m doing. I want to be out there with the team, obviously. I want to help out the team.” Gronkowski said.
Gronkowski’s absence is sure to adversely affect the Patriots as he holds the record in National Football League (NFL) record for most number of touchdowns by a tight end.
He proved his importance against the Denver Broncos as he took 10 catches for 145 yards and scored three touchdowns.
And in this season he has gone on to have 90 receiving this season for 1,327 yards with 17 touchdowns.
Patriots coach, Bill Belichick too was optimistic after Wednesday's practice
"He's day to day. He's getting better, but we'll just take it day to day."
"We had our moments. Some good ones and some things we've got to work on. They're trying. They're working hard. We've got a ways to go, though.” Belichick said.
Meanwhile Sebastian Vollmer who earlier sustained a foot/back injury was present on the field and practiced on a limited basis. Patriots’ left tackle, Matt Light also made a return to the practice session after having suffered earlier from an illness. Light
participated in practice on a full basis.
