Injury ruins Teo Kok Siang’s hopes of playing in All England Premier Super Series
- Badminton News
Malaysian Men’s Doubles badminton player, Teo Kok Siang, who is the champion of the Junior Badminton World Championships 2008, has suffered with an ankle injury that has ruined his hopes of appearing in the All England Premier Super Series event, which is
going to kick-off next week.
He is also doubtful about his possibilities of playing in the Badminton World Championships 2011, which will be held from August 8-14 in London, England. He will remain away from the arena for six months, as he recently has undergone a knee surgery.
In the Junior Badminton World Championships 2008, Teo Siang together with Mak Hee Chun clinched the title in the Men’s Doubles category. He has been performing for his country at the international level and has occupied the 21st spot in the Badminton
World Federation rankings.
His exit from the German Open Gran Prix Gold, the All England Premier Super Series 2011 and the Badminton World Championships 2011, has made the coaches worried as the third Malaysian pair of Men’s Doubles will not be able to participate in the World Championships,
unless any back-up pair manages to appear in the top 24 pairs in the world rankings.
Two Malaysian pairs including number five seeds Tan Boon Heong – Koo Kien Keat and world number seventeen pair of Tan Bin Shen – Gan Teik Chai, will be competing for titles in all major events of the year.
Men’s Doubles coach, Tan Kim Her, is confident to prepare another pair to fill the place of Teo Kok Siang - Goh Wei Shem. The two other pairs of Men’s Doubles will also be available, which include world number 33, Tan Wee Kiong – Hee Chun and the world number
38 pair of Lim Khim Wah – Chan Peng Soon.
The coach said that the exit of the top back-up shuttler, Teo Kok Siang has spared a chance for other pairs to get into the top 24 spot in the world rankings and secure an entry into the mega event of the Badminton World Championships. The new formed pair
of Lim Khim Wah and Goh Wei Shem will be participating in the Australian Grand Prix event, which will take place in the first week of April. The participation in this low ranked tournament will make this pair familiar with each other's style of play.
Teo Siang’s injury has opened up a race to grab the number three position in the national rankings. The third pair of Men’s Doubles from Malaysia will participate in the Badminton World Championships, only if it comes in the top 24 pairs in the rankings.
The coach said that the world number 33 and 38 pairs of Malaysia will be working hard to get points and improve their world rankings by playing all tournaments until the month of July.
