Injury rules Jacques Kallis midway out of the match
South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis played a crucial innings of 161 runs on the second day of the decisive third Test against India, but his heroics came at a high price as he was ruled out of the remaining part of the match and, is likely to miss opening two One Day Internationals as well. This was revealed by the team manager of South Africa Cricket Team, Mohammed Moosajee, in a news conference.
Kallis was hit on the chest by the Indian pacer S. Sreesanth on Day two of the final Test but he battled through the pain barrier to strike his 39th Test century as the Proteas managed to amass their first innings total of 362 runs. He was the last man to lose the wicket in the hosts’ batting line-up.
Though Kallis’ level-headed 161-run innings took the side to a respectable total in their first innings, he is no more available to the hosts to bowl or field when India take the bat. However, there is possibility that the 35-year-old might take the bat if needed in the second innings of Proteas.
"Jacques took a blow to the side of the chest and has a contusion on the right rib with an accompanying muscle strain,” said the team manager of South Africa while telling the media persons about Kallis’ injury. “He will definitely bat if needed to in the second innings but won't take the field when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 bat," Moosajee added further.
When asked about the expected recovery time of the injured all-rounder, Moosajee said that it might take the player about two weeks to recover from the blow, adding that he will most probably miss the first two matches of the ODI leg of the series.
Kallis was happy with his painstaking century, though he did concede that the pitch was quite tough so it was not easy to bat there.
"It wasn't easy out there, the pitch is quite tough, there's a bit of bounce and lateral movement. So it's great to come through a challenge like that, that's why we play the game. It was very satisfying," said the injured all-rounder after adding another Test century to his account.
The Proteas bowlers complemented Kallis’s efficient bowling display by picking up two early wickets as the tourists faltered to 28 for 2. But the opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gautam-Gambhir-c58623 and the little batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar buckled down 114 runs for the third wicket to take the side to 142 for 2 by the stumps. Gambhir was not out at 65 while Tendulkar was just a run behind his 60th Test half-century.
The series is levelled at 1-1 and both the sides are trying to win the series, especially the visitors, as it would be there first ever Test series win against the Proteas, in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
