Injury-struck Lions to face Stormers at Ellis Park – Rugby news
Usually everything goes against you when you hit a poor run of the form. This comes fitting particularly for the likes of Golden Lions who are facing all sorts of troubles during the super rugby 2011.
Golden Lions during this season are more associated with losing game as compare to the winning side are currently placed at the bottom of the South African conference and at the bottom of the Super XV super rugby standings. During round eight, Sharks used
the Lions to regain their momentum by beating the visitors at Kings Park.
Stormers in their next match will take on the Stormers, who before the Saturday’s clash with Reds were unbeaten in the six games. In other words, Golden Lions are faced with a daunting task to overcome the challenge of a team like Stormers who are probably
playing best rugby as unit in the many season.
To face a team like them, any opposition ensures that they play their best available players who can perform for them diligently so that a team can leave a mark on the field during the game. However, Lions with their poor run of perform have run into some
major injury issues related to some key player of their starting line-up.
Most noticeable is the loss of the Lions James Kamana. Kamana returned to the Lions starting line-up in their games against the Sharps last Saturday after serving the suspension. Lions were expecting a lot from his to deliver to provide them some sort of
achievement in the Super XV however; his field trip was cut short as he was taken off the field during the 31st minute of the game.
While the complete results are, still awaited, initial reports suggest that Kamana has a broken ankle, with injury of such kind at least expected to take three months to recover. Thus, if the reports confirm the broken ankle, then will be the end of Super
XV for James Kamana.
The list does not culminate here, as the Lions will also be without the services of George Earle and Josh Strauss. Lions Flank Josh Strauss was taken off the field during the 24thminute of the game while George Earle was taken off the field during the 50th minute
of the game.
Both Strauss and Earle concussions and had to be replaced by Michael Rhodes and David De Villiers respectively. It is expected that both will miss at least next weekend's match against the Stormers at Coca-Cola (Ellis) Park stadium.
