Injury threatens Nathan Hauritz’s chances of playing ICC World Cup 2011
Nathan Hauritz’s dreams of playing February’s World Cup appear to be in tatters after the off-spinner picked up a shoulder injury just four weeks before the esteemed event gets underway in the subcontinent.
The 29-year-old dislocated his right shoulder while fielding on the boundary in second One Day International of the seven-match series against traditional rivals, England at Hobart.
Team physio, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Kountouris-c43123 confirmed on Saturday that medical Tests have shown ‘moderate disruption’ at his bowling shoulder.
“[The scans] have demonstrated moderate disruption of the supportive structures at the shoulder. We will now seek a specialist opinion to determine the next course of action,” said the Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 physiotherapist in a statement.
The physio also confirmed that the dislocated shoulder has ruled the 29-year-old Queenslander out of the ensuing matches against England; adding his chances of playing in the esteemed event also appear to be slim.
“It is likely he will be unavailable for the remainder of the Commonwealth Bank Series,” said Kountouris. “And his availability for the ICC Cricket World Cup will be determined in the coming weeks,” he added.
The treatment options, according to team physio, include both conservative and surgical management. A specialist will now be consulted and if recommended surgery, the injury would bring the curtains down on a miserable summer which saw Hauritz failing to
make even a single Test of the much-awaited 2010-11 Ashes series.
The 28-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 spinner, Xavier Doherty, who made his ODI and Test debuts recently, has been called in for the next two ODIs against England.
The four times reigning World champions are sweating on the fitness of some of their key players. While regular captain Ricky Ponting is already missing the limited-overs leg of the home series against England, veteran middle-order batsman Michael Hussey
is nursing an injured hamstring which he picked up in the first ODI at Melbourne.
Meanwhile, pace bowler Shaun Tait, who strained a muscle in his upper thigh while bowling at Bellerive Oval, has been cleared of any significant damage and Kountouris said he could even play in the third ODI against England at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
“Shaun complained of some left upper thigh pain during last night's match. As a precaution he was advised to stop bowling and leave the field. He had scans this afternoon which have cleared him of any new and significant damage,” he said.
The physio said that Tait would be assessed the next twelve hours before being cleared for Sunday’s game.
