Injury woes continue to haunt the struggling Minnesota Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves absorbed another major blow to their campaign early in the season after point guard Luke Ridnour sustained a strained left hamstring, which could cause him to miss at least a week.
Ridnour, who did not play in the second half of the 120-94 loss against the Houston Rockets on Sunday 7 November, missed their team’s practise and reportedly sought medical attention for his ailing hamstring.
“Obviously, his hamstring has been bothering him for a while,” Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Kurt Rambis said. “It has probably reached its peak. We have to get it resolved. We've got to get him back
healthy and not thinking about it.”
Without their top-two point guards, Ridnour and second-year guard Jonny Flynn, coach Rambis will be forced to start Sebastian Telfair, with Mo Ager and shooting guard Wayne Ellington backing him up. Telfair,
who injured his shoulder during the off-season, said that he is healthy and he will be ready to do what his coach is asking from him.
“I'm healthy,” said Telfair, who is averaging nine points and 3.1 assists in their first seven games. “I don't have anything to complain about that any other NBA player don't have to complain about. It's
a tough game, you get banged up, you have a couple sore spots but I'm healthy for the most part.”
Flynn, on the other hand, is very eager to make a comeback after learning that Ridnour will be out, but the former Syracuse standout could still be sidelined for at least two weeks more after undergoing a
hip surgery during the off-season.
“I would want to come back and help my team knowing Luke won't be able to play, but I have to do the smartest thing and what's best for me and my body,” said Flynn, who was the sixth overall pick in the 2009
NBA draft. “We'll still take our time.”
Meanwhile, third-year power-forward Michael Beasley is still bothered by his aching left hip, but he is expected to play through it since the team badly needs him to recover from their horrible 1-6 start
this season.
