Inland Vs Coastal temperature?

Hey, i wasn't sure where to put this question, so i hope it's ok that i'm asking it here. I was wondering, how do inland and coastal areas differ in terms of temperature? Are coastal areas generally cooler?

  1. Water has a huge capacity for heat storage. In the spring, coastal areas are slower to heat up than the inland areas because the cold water is soaking up so much heat from the air. Conversely, during the autumn, the coastal areas stay mild longer because of the water giving up all the heat it has stored over the summer.


  2. I would not say "cooler" or "warmer", but coastal area observe moderate temperature change in a day.

    that is: the range of temperature in a day is smaller than that of range of temperature at inland site.

    eg. say a certain coastal city has 25 C. highest in day & 22 C. coolest in night temperature. With the same latitute the inland city would observe more extreme temperatures ... say 28 C & 19 C.

    This also applies well to towns on rivers. Therefore it is observed that most of the township in the world is either on coastal area or around river.
