Inler over the moon after writing history and scoring his first Napoli goal
Napoli midfielder, Gokhan Inler, is delighted to know that he wrote history for the club after his strike helped the Azzurri to qualify for the last 16 round.
The Swiss midfielder scored from a thunderous long range effort to help his side beat Villarreal by 2-0 in the group stage game of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, December 7th, 2011.
Napoli have advanced to the next round in their return to the competition after 21 years and Inler is extremely happy for the fans. The former Udinese star scored his first goal in Napoli shirt and he knows that it could not have
come at a better time. The Azzurri were struggling in the game until Inler scored a screamer in the 65th minute.
The 27-year-old believes that it is a big achievement for the club and it will go down as one of the best moments in the team’s history. However, he has urged his teammates to continue their good form and keep playing like this.
Inler said, “I broke the deadlock and I’m happy for myself and all the Napoli fans. This is an important night. We will all enjoy this victory, as we wrote http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 history this evening. We want to carry on doing well. In the first
half we were a little tense and it wasn’t easy, as Villarreal played good football.”
The former F.C Basel star admitted that the players were a bit tensed in the first half against Villarreal but they showed great character to fight back. Inler has dedicated his first goal to the fans and believes that they deserved
to see their side progressing to the next round.
“I finally scored my first goal for Napoli and want to dedicate this to all the fans who waited patiently for it to come. We deserved to qualify; we’re strong and can still really grow together.”
The versatile midfielder has urged his team to shift their focus back to the Serie A and believes that they must replicate the Champions League form in the league. Napoli are currently placed 5th in the league and they
drift the league leaders, Juventus, by nine points.
