I am Only 13, and I play on a 13-15 rec league. Because I am a girl, My teammates ignore me and Never Pass. I Played a game with my Dad on the 16+ rec league for novice people, and kicked butt. My Dad wants me to Play on his league, but I still want to play with my own speed of players...(Fast) I'm good on the 13-15, but what should I do, Play with Older people and Kick butt? Or play along with my same-aged players and play good, where the coaches ROCK, and I have a little bit of fun?

  1. You should play for both. Look at different situations as opportunities to practice different parts of your game. If you aren't getting the puck, work on the things you can't in the older league. When you play 13-15, work on speed, getting in front of the net, picking up rebounds, and defense. When you're in the 16+ league, work on shooting, puck control, and passing.

Also, take opportunities to work with great coaches whenever you can. Even if you don't get the puck, you still get the experience. Of course, the morons not passing because you're a girl is something that shouldn't happen, but unfortunately it's a situation you can't change. However, if those coaches are any good, they'll talk to their players about passing. You may want to mention that to them.

  2. Play both if you can!  Screen the keeper in your younger league and knock in rebounds, and backcheck like a banshee and get the puck.  Practice dealing with bigger stronger, even if less skilled opponents in the other league, and keep smiling and doing the little things right...like asking great questions!
