  1. Sure anybody can learn to skate on speedskates!

They are fun, but it does take a bit of practice.

If you want to take classes or just skate with others, go to http://www.skatelogforum.com/forums/

There you'll find lots of skaters that are willing to help with advice or go skate with you.

    Have fun!

  2. Yes, you can learn to skate on them on your own. But, take care. Use security equipment (helmet, gloves etc.).

  3. How steady are your ankles.  Loosen up the tops of your skate boots and see how stable you are.  The really low cut of the boots gives very little support for your ankles.  I have known one person who fought for years skating on custom racing boots but could never hold his ankles straight.  He got really fast when he bought fitness skates and put his racing frames on them.  Everyone else that I know of who has made the transition has been successful.

Yes, you can learn on them.  If you have good skating form, the ankles will be your only impediment to learning to use them.

Form is more critical with racing skates.

Because of the lack of padding and support, fit is more critical than for rec/fitness skates.
