Question:

Inner Ankle-area Pain? (Orthopedic doctor, other doctor, runners, or other athletes in general)?

I was running about 6 weeks back and i twisted my ankle in a hole in the grass. I stopped running for about 4 weeks and i had no pain when i started running again about 2 weeks ago. Last week, however, I ran about 30 hill repeats on blacktop (i changed up my running form as well) and the next day my inner ankle and inner lower leg near the ankle had like a persistent ache. I've iced it for an hour or so per day since then but i continued to run until the pain became intermediate (which was the 2nd day i ran again). I'm not really sure if the pain is ligament/tendon pain in that general area, if i sprained/strained something there, if it is a stress fracture from running on the asphalt a lot, or if it is just a growing pain because i'm still having growth spurts every so often.

  1. I suggest you use r.i.c.e treatment:

    Rest

    Ice

    Compress

    Elevate

I also suggest you seek medical advice.

  2. If it's a stress fracture, it hurts all the time. Whether you are walking or sitting and especially running.  I think you just need to give it some time to recover. You need rest and remember that just because it isn't hurting anymore, it doesn't mean that it has recovered.  So keep icing and if it doesn't get better you should go see a doctor. Hope you feel better =]
