Innova Evo causing digestion issues?

I switched my dogs to EVO about 3 -4 months ago. In the past month my 1 year old Beagle has developed issues with his digestive system. He has developed discomfort and constipation. I have taken him to the vet a couple of times and they have done X-rays and blood work and found nothing wrong. I notice that when he does p**p it is VERY hard and he has a hard time pushing it out. Do you think this could be caused by the EVO? If so, what food do you recommend?

  1. Hmmm, I feed both my dogs Innova EVO (almost 2 years now) and have not had problems. What other foods do you feed your beagle? What treats do you give him? Did you start giving him anything new the last month?

Another thing you can try is to add some fiber into her diet. But I would consult your vet on that.

  2. Did you switch the food right away or did you gradually introduce it to him?  I made the same switch and have had excellent results with the EVO product. Coat is much softer and shinier and she doesn't eat nearly as much b/c of more protein. Although for some of our pets all this protein can be the problem if their digestion system is not used to it. Hope this helps.

  3. well its possible for a dog to have issues wwith any food no matter how good..... Evo IS very low fiber and fiber does function to help keep digesion moving along .....

  4. Evo is an amazing food and most likely wouldn't be causing these types of issues. One thing with constipation could be dehydration - esp. since it has been so hot out - make sure the dog is getting lots of water. Also try adding a table spoon of pumpkin to his food to soften up his stool - this will help get it out but not correct or diagnosis the issue- but may cause some relief while you try to figure it out. Also, look at the treats you give him - rawhide is esp. know for causing upsets and stoppages just like this. If you end up switching off of EVO, stay with another grain free diet such as Orijen.
