I know the inside out swing path is what were supposed to have. my question is this-when im starting my downswing and im "inside", as im making contact with the ball...is my swing path online with the target? or is it a square club face going outside the target line? i hope this is clear...i guess what im trying to figure out is how much outside do i need to be? for a righty....should my swing literally be going towards first base, with a square face? or at impact should my swing be going on the target line with a square face? hard to explain my question on a messge board

  1. Most new player develop a slice when learning golf. The tend to swing with the arms and swing too hard. In golf the swing is really a product of the shoulder turn. The arms merely lift drop and control the face of the club. Swinging with extra froce causes an outside in swing which promotes a slice.

    To correct your swing.

loosen the grip (frees up the chest and shoulder muscles)

take the club back low and slow toward the inside.

From the top start he downswing by dropping your left arm straight down toward the ground (force the club inside).

Never cast the club from the top (often caused when you attempt to swing too hard) but get it into that inside out path.

The looser grip will help to release the club face (square the club head),

The reason that you shot irons are straight or have less slice is two fold the shorter shaft is easier to control and the added loft adds backspin that counteracts the side spin causing the slice.

    Good luck

  2. Usually you do not want an inside out swing. An inside out swing with a sqaure face will produce a draw that will go right. If your club face is facing outside, or to first base as you put it, you will generate a draw that will start outside and then draw right.

Generally at you want your club to be pointing straight down at your target line, not above and not below. Its confusing as h**l i kno but you would like your swing to be completely sqaure if that makes any sense what so ever. A good way to see your swing path would be to stop your swing when your club is parallel to the target and if your club is "pointing" straight at the ball you are looking at a square plane. An inside out swing is caused by the club being too flat and pointing above the ball.

So to answer your questing. If you have an inside out swing then yes. You would want the club face to be pointing outside, maybe not so extreme to where it would be pointing towards first base, unless you have a lot of wrist action. But prolly more inbetween first and second base

  3. well a controlled hook or slice isnt the end of the world:

    Dopey joke:

Two old folks got married. As they were laying in their wedding suite, staring at the ceiling, the old man says, "I haven't been completely honest with you. I think the world of you, but you are only number two to me. Golf is my first love. It's my hobby, my passion, my first love."

They both stare at the ceiling for a bit then the woman said, "While we're baring our souls, I guess I better tell you that I've been a hooker all my life."

The man jumps out of bed, looks at her a moment then says, "Have you tried widening your stance and adjusting your grip?"

    ^_^

  4. You do not want an inside out or an outside in.  The swing arch is rounded and goes inside to square to inside on the follow through.  The best advice I can give you to start with is to get the fundamentals down i.e. posture and grip then work on rythm and flow with your swing. Find your rythm and flow b/c if you try to take the club back slow then you are going to stiffen up and probably yank hard from the top feeling like you need to kill the ball. Rythm and flow...if you have a solid grasp of the basics and develop a good rythm and flow everything else will fall into place...remember you cannot make it happen as easy as you can let it happen.

  5. Develop a Jim Furyk swing. It should fix your inside to out swing problem in a heartbeat.
