Inside post for Game on Dude in the Native Diver
The 5-year-old gelding by Awesome Again, Game on Dude, after a disappointing seventh place finish in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita Park after being sent as the favourite, will look to bounce back in the Grade 3, $250,000 Native Diver Stakes Presented by the Oak Tree Racing Association at Betfair Hollywood Park on 1 December, 2012.
Bob Baffert trained gelding will look to overcome the field from the rail, as he drew the inside post for the 1 1/8 mile event to be run over the Hollywood Park’s cushion track.
This time around though, even after a $100,000 boost in purse since last year, Native Diver has been able to reel in a modest field with four others than Game on Dude.
Fifth in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic, Richard’s Kid will break from post number two for trainer Doug O’Neill, and the promising 3-year-old by Pleasantly Perfect, Nonios, will also participate, and gets post number four under jockey, M. Pedroza.
The 2011 winner of the Native Diver, Kettle Corn, returns to the scene to defend his title, and multiple stakes placed, Make Music for Me, will complete the Native Diver lineup.
Out of Worldly Pleasure by Devil His Due, Game on Dude, returns to the Hollywood Park’s cushion track since his victory in the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup in July, where he went on to defeat Richard’s Kid in second and Kettle Corn in third.
The Hollywood Gold Cup was run over a distance of 1 ¼ miles, and it was covered by Game on Dude in 2 minutes and 4.19 seconds.
Prior to the Hollywood Gold Cup, Game on Dude was exiting another victory over the same venue, the Grade 2 Californian Stakes over 1 1/8 miles in June, and back then he defeated Kettle Corn once again, as Prayer for Relief finished third.
He has raced over Hollywood Park’s cushion track three times, won twice and finished second once in the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup to stable mate First Dude, but this time around he will be looking for his third tally from four starts over the Hollywood Park’s cushion track.
