Question:

Insider JOB?

Last week Friday I experienced an armed robbery at my house - hence my absence from YA for the past week...

6 Black Guys jumped over the wall and beat the snot out of my domestic worker (who is 50 years old - a real threat)

They basically stole all our electrical appliances Plasma's, Microwaves, Firearms (whole safe off the wall) - and of course our computers - hence my absence from YA

I can’t get the idea out of my head that somehow it was an insider job - is this a natural phenomena or do you think I should investigate it further - or just get on with my life?

I have a pool guy, garden service and a domestic worker who I recently fired (absconded) - who all have access to our house...

  1. Always an inside job. When will people learn to do the work themselves. You are lucky you weren't home. You need to get a pro to investigate because you are likely to get killed snooping around.

  2. It is normally a inside job not themselves but people they know and or friends with

If they think you treat them bad you will have it

that is there way of end a chapter

  3. You would be surprised how these ous think and work.  We had the electrical guys deliver our fridge after repairing it, and because it was easier to lock the dogs up in the back yard, they brought it in through the lounge. That was maybe half a minute? And the first thing the one guy says "Why do you have 2 video recorders?"

They don´t miss a thing!! Anyone who can get inside your house can be an excellent informer.

My sister had a domestic worker who was "loyal" to the family for years. Her little son practically grew up there with the other kids. Till sonny boy became a teenager, that is. Slowly things and money started disappearing. Mother and son were a perfect team!  And HE was telling his mother what to do!!  My sister confronted her and mentioned that if ever another thing disappeared, she would call the police.  That was the last she saw of them!  They had most likely been doing it for years on a smaller scale, and then it got bigger and braver!!

Inside jobs? Defintely. But I doubt whether you would get any results from following it up?

  4. We did some work at the home of a large client of ours. He was robbed shortly afterwards. Naturally he questioned us about or staff. After some investigation and a lie detector test he established that it was one of his maids that had arranged the robbery. She left on her own accord and hasn’t been heard from since. We had a similar situation at home. The carpenter stole my fathers cell phone when he went for a shower. Once again we hired a man to come in with his equipment. It was the carpenter that stole the phone. We sent him packing. It may have cost us more to get rid of the thief then the value of what he stole but it was worth it because the rest of the staff now knows we do not just accept theft. If he knows what’s good for him he will never enter my neighbourhood ever again. He got the message nice and clear and the rest of the staff knows we will take action. They are all well paid (well above average) and had NO reason for theaft. On Thursday I got rid of yet another staff member at my office. He had rolled up tools on his cloths and took them with him. We went through the full procedure and he got his dismissal papers. All the staff was made aware of the situation. I strongly suggest you don’t take it lying down or you will continuously be a victim.

  5. F@kit ! That makes me sad and angry at the same time ! I had many break-ins the last couple of months but luckily no-one was home ! We work flippen hard for what we own ,yes we do have insurance but it simply does not replace all !

Not just is it upsetting that someone can simply take it all from you in a couple of minutes  but one feels violated , ''they'' went thru your house ,your sanctity , your private space !

Inside story ...? Well ,fact is we'll never know ,suspicion is one thing ,proving is another !

    You are in my thoughts.........

  6. Shame Slipper man I am really sorry to hear this.

We had exactly the same thing happen to us!

Before we left Zim we had to let all our domestic workers go. Within the next week we too were Burgled before we left which was horrible since my grandparents were going to be taking over our house. They stole TVs VCR's, microwave, pots and pans. (we never kept a safe in the house) Our domestic workers also knew exactly how to get into our house and we'd never been robbed before.

We had a 10ft wall all around our house + garden also huge electric gates and 5 massive dogs. That night not even the dogs barked, I reckon it is because our dogs knew the workers and listened to them when they worked for us etc.  We were always good to our workers and gave them bonuses as such as we could and always made sure they were well looked after.

Still to this day I reckon it was an inside job!

  7. Ag slipperman I am really sorry to hear that just very glad that you and your family were not hurt. I cannot remember was it not you who had labour problems with your domestic worker a while back, the one that just stayed away form work for weeks? Well I prosecuted for years, it is usually an inside job, and I bet you R 2 000 that the absconded domestic worker had something to do with it.....that is why it is so important to make a photostat copy of their ID books and get their addresses.....What I do with my staff is I have friends in the SAp that runs a check on their ID's...........that is how I discovered that one of my gardeners had 4 previous convicitons for dagga, robbery and public violence. I also check their arms for "jail" tatoos.....Investigate further

  8. Sorry to hear about your loss, it is damage you don't recover from, apart from sentimental value of things and the feeling of being violated ,and the sad part is, no matter what we try to prevent it, if they want to get in, somehow they find a way

  9. unfortunately yes it could be, the domestics are often threatened with rape/murder of them or their family members or even yours.

She might have been invovled since she has since dissappeared (or she might just be traumatised) but its a miracle that you and your family were not there.

Im so sorry they took all your stuff and beat up your maid.

They say 6-12am (mornings) are the worst time for crimes. Thats why I just got an electric fence, I was too scared to go in my garden in the morning when the kids were at school.

I doubt it was the garden service/ pool guy (unless they saw the inside of your house) I remember visiting a black family and their TV was in a very strange part of the lounge, when we asked he said "so you cant see it from the doorway/entrance"

Ive always remembered that and keep all curtains drawn when garden service are around.

I think an investigation is pointless, if the maid is gone leave it that way. Clean your own house for a while, upgrade your alarm system (or just get a panic button) and hide all the boxes from the stuff you need to replace.

Again Im so sorry to hear of the burglary/attack.

  10. Sorry to hear about what happened Slipperman. You have to weigh up things like how quick it took them to have access to your stuff. (like if they knew the ins ands outs of your home). I would say that you should investigate further, but don't let it take over your life. . .  Some people tend to let these misfortunes, change their lives forever!

  11. it could be anyone of those people. Tp be safe, limit access to your house to yourself and yourself only so to speak.

I have a hunch that your domestic has unknowingly given out information about your house and that is what lead to the burglary. It's just a hunch...
