Insight into the life and experiences of Sania Mirza – Tennis News
Indian tennis ace, Sania Mirza, gave an interview to representative of Daily News Analysis (DNA), Derek Abraham, this past weekend and spoke about some interesting topics including the London Olympics controversy, selection of
Bob Bryan as the Australian Open 2013 mix-doubles partner as well as some personal life experiences ever since her marriage with the former captain of the Pakistan Cricket Team, Shoaib Malik.
Commenting about the partnership with Bob Bryan, the 25-year-old Indian superstar said, “I have known Bob for a long time. For a couple of years, we talked about playing together but it never worked out because both of us were
committed to our compatriots due to the Olympics. We spoke after the US Open and everything fell into place. We’ll play together at the Australian Open in January.”
Mirza further added about the new Australian Open partner and stated that not only Bob but Mike Bryan is also a very witty character. They never let their partner get bored at any time of the contest especially when they are trailing.
The touch of humour always helps to release tension and both twin brothers are quite impressive in their game style; probably the best in the business. Bob and Mirza might visit India together sometime soon but the plans are yet to be finalised according to
the 12th ranked doubles player in the world.
Talking about the impact of marriage on her character, Mirza confessed, “I’ve become more patient in general.” Adding more about the companionship with Shoaib Malik, Mirza said, “When we have an argument, I just go on and on and
then I ask him ‘so, you’ve nothing to say?’ And he just says ‘hmmm, OK’ and that reaction of his irritates me even more (laughs). His patience is his best quality.”
Mirza was not too comfortable talking about the Olympics fiasco that disturbed and damaged the image of Indian Tennis Federation as well as their relationship with the players. She was used as the trade-off item in the end to pacify
the hurt Leander Paes who wanted to team up with Mahesh Bhupathi for the doubles entry but that would have left Rohan Bopanna out of the Olympics squad and allowed Indian to send a single team which was the first aim of the federation. However, it was something
that hurt Mirza a lot but they are now at peace and don’t want anything like that to happen again. Everyone has accepted their fault and that’s good for the sake of game.
