Insomnia, how can I fix it?

For 2 weeks now I've had barely any sleep and I'm so tried! My brain just won't shut off when I try and sleep. My sleep has also been really light and constantly waking up and when I do wake up my brain instantly starts racing again. I can't even have a nap in the day or anything because of it.

Normally I'm a pretty heavy sleeper and get 8-9 hours a night but I've only been getting 3-6 hours of bad sleep a night now.

Does anyone know a anything that might help me sleep?

  1. 1) Did you recently change your sleeping arrangements?

Some scientists say that your bed area should be completely clear of anything related to your waking life--work, school, etc, so that your brain can associate the room and the bed with sleeping, to ease it.

    2) Try drinking milk before going to bed. Milk has calming effects.

    3) Try to keep the TV in the background, at a very very low volume. It eventually helps in getting you to naturally fall asleep.

    4) Do you have an air conditioner/heater/electric fan around? If so, try turning it on. Some people find it hard to fall asleep if the room s extremely quiet. The faint and constant buzzing sound these electronic devices provide ma effectively lull you to sleep.

    Sleep well! :)

  2. First of all timing is critical.  Don't try and sleep too much (9 hours sounds a lot).  A regular pattern is essential - go to bed the same time each night.  But don't stay in bed if your mind is racing, maybe read, watch TV - reading is best.  I find if I stay in bed, wide awake I just get frustrated then I'm never going to sleep.

For me its particularly important not to consume caffeine after dinner, because this keeps me awake.

I have found it particularly useful to learn some relaxation exercises, which I'm sure you can find on the internet somewhere, you could do these before bed, or in case you are unable to sleep.

  3. I'v been a victim of insomnia too! I HATED IT! This is how I got myself cured : Stay up all night one night, don't bother getting BAD sleep! The next night you'll be SO exhausted you'll sleep on time, and wake up on time too. Manage your routine fresh after that. Good luck!
