What do you call tourists in your part of the world and why? I lived most of my life in Dorset (Southern UK) where we called them Grockles. Not sure of the origin

We also called them "innits" because they would walk round saying "nice here innit"

Also rednecks because their necks were almost always burnt from the sun

  1. Lost

  2. When I lived in San Diego, every Summer there would be a massive influx of people coming to the coast to escape the heat in Arizona. The Arizona license plates were EVERYWHERE. I lived down in a beach community and every summer they would swoop in and snatch up all the parking and take over the beach.

So we referred to the "tourists" as "Zonies."

  3. I live in under-educated part of the Ozarks in central MO.  We call them $!

  4. lol - my dad calls people innits - he's from the south, texas to be precise.. but, for the most part, we have always called people either Q-tip heads, cause they drive so slow like old people with white hair, or just simply, stinkin' tourists!!! or, leaf peepers - cause they wanna look at the pretty fall colours... ugh!!!

  5. LMAO...

We don't have too many tourists here. Mainly just people from other cities in town for a football (american) game.  We call them unprintable 4 letter words because normally they are so drunk and badly behaved.

  6. We call them tourists.  However, we don't come across tourists in Cleveland very often.  Who wants to visit Cleveland?  Seriously.

  7. To be honest... not a lot of people come to visit Georgia :( so we don't have a specific name for the tourist because they are few and far between.

  8. We just say tourists

  9. Innits, that's funny.

We call them tourists here or visitors.

We also call  some locals rednecks, but for very different reasons.

What I love is when tourists say, "Not many trees around here"

I live on the prairie in southern Alberta.

  10. Desperate.

I live in Texas near Dallas, so seeing tourists is so sad...because there is nothing to do...

  11. Future immigrants! So many people who visit Canada love it so much they often want to come back to stay.

  12. Tree gawkies...

  13. We call them Americans ;-)

I live on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls - most of the people who visit are from the States.

  14. Fur'iners. Or tourists.

Fur'iner is "Foreigner," for those 'not in the know.' I daresay the title itself is rather self-explanatory, but local usage isn't - If you weren't born locally, you'll be a Fur'iner pretty much forever. People in my neighborhood who've lived here 15 years are still referred to as 'the new family.' I've lived here five years, and many people still haven't defrosted enough to speak to me without I should directly approach them, first.

  15. Umm...tourists.
