Inspiring run of the winners in Seoul - Badminton News
The 2011 Korea Open super series premier event produced top quality Badminton by the top 32 players in each category comprising of the Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
These participants from the every region of the world tried their best to deliver superb performances in this major event. However, the most impressive and inspiring athletes emerged as winners of the titles in all categories and received not only the appreciation
of the crowd, but also huge prize money as well.
The chilling atmosphere of Seoul was beneficial for some players but also created problems for all those came from warmer regions. However, there were extremely experienced players who possessed extensive practice of playing everywhere in the whole world
and did not take much time to accommodate themselves. All of the winners and runners-ups in 2011 Korea Open super series premier gradually became familiar to the freezing weather of Seoul, South Korea.
Among the Men’s Singles category, Lin Dan (China) and Lee Chong Wei (Malaysia) put a great show in the final match of the event. The two players are generally considered as the most complete and inspiring shuttlers in the arena of Badminton. In a three-set
battle, Lin Dan defeated the in-form Lee Chong Wei, who is currently World Number One. Lin Dan was superb throughout the event and never showed any sign of frustration even when he lost one game in the second round and also one game in the quarter-final. Every
time he came back in the match and won it in the third set. The Chinese got the title by a 21-19, 14-21, 21-16 win.
In the category of Women’s Singles, it was Wang Yihan who won against her team-mate Wang Shixian, in straight games showing that she is more mature and also a quick learner. Wang Yihan had lost to the same opponent in PROTON Malaysia Open super series just
a week ago. In the whole tournament in Seoul, the experienced Chinese showed his mental strength, along with the tactics of the game and raised her country’s flag by winning the title with a score of 21-14, 21-18.
In the final of Men’s Doubles, the contest was between number one seeded pair of Carsten Mogensen - Mathias Boe (Denmark) and the number six seeded duo of Jung Jae Sung - Lee Yong Dae (Korea). The Koreans were just invincible, as they severely treated the
World Number One pair in the final match and defeated them with a huge margin of 21-6, 21-13 making it a completely one-sided match. The winners were tremendous in their previous matches and claimed the title to prove their worth.
The Women’s Doubles final was an all-China affair. The sixth seeded pair of Yu Yang - Wang Xiaoli (China) defeated their compatriots and number eight seeds Zhao Yunlei - Tian Qing. It was three-set fight between these two pairs. The opening two sets were
stuffed by quality play, but the third and final set was completely one sided as Yu Yang - Wang Xiaoli won the decider by a big margin of 21-4. The final result was 21-18, 19-21, 21-4.
In the title match of Mixed Double’s category, again both pairs from China contested again each other. The Chinese presented a great show in the Seoul National University Gymnasium, Seoul, South Korea. The fifth seeded pair of Zhang Nan - Zhao Yunlei won
the title match by a score of 21-17, 13-21, 21-19.
